Profile: Chef Vinicio Cordon

As a young boy growing up in Guatemala, Vinicio developed a passion for cooking which was greatly inspired and encouraged by both his mother and grandmother. Much to the delight of the South Shore, Vinicio has been lucky enough to turn this childhood passion into a flourishing career for nearly 20 years.

Vinicio earned a business degree from the University of Guatemala in 1989 and then moved to Boston to pursue his culinary dreams. Thus began his 12 year association with one of the city’s hottest spots in the mid 1980’s, the hotel Meridien (currently the Langham hotel). Vinicio spent time in both the front and back of the “house” learning techniques, testing recipes and feeding his passion for cooking and hospitality. His time proved to be well spent and in 1997, he opened Daniela’s Café at 85 Sandwich Street, in Plymouth, Mass. Daniela’s Café began conservatively, selling a selection of pastries, soups, salads, desserts and coffee at breakfast and lunch. In 1999 Daniela’s moved to its current location on Court Street. Enthusiastic encouragement from its growing network of regulars prompted Daniela’s to open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday nights. “Vinnie” renamed the restaurant Sabor in 2007 to signify its renaissance and a fresh, flavorful start.

Chef Cordon is excited about the future of the Sabor Family. He invites guests to enjoy the gourmet tradition of his flagship restaurant, SABOR, and experience the new “Flavor of Fresh” at his second location, SABOR Market.
